Tanzanian conjoined twins Maria and Consolata Mwakikuti are in their last year at secondary school and are looking forward to graduating after their final exams. The 19 year-olds are studying in Iringa Udzungwa in Tanzania’s south-west region.
Their mother died after giving birth, their father has also passed away, and they were raised by a Catholic church charity, Maria Consolata, which adopted them and gave them their names.
The BBC’s Leonard Mubali travelled to meet them. He joined them for a class session and says they were getting on well with their classmates and taking an active part in the lessons. He says Consolata was more talkative and engaged than her sister.

They told our reporter that they want to become teachers and hope to get married to one husband in the future.
Headmaster Edward Fue said he had been shocked when he met the young women last year saying he did not know how to help them because the school did not have special facilities.
The school, with the aid of the local government, have now built a special room for them to rest. They also hired a driver to take them to where they live.
Our reporter says that the girls are against the idea of being surgically separated.

UNBLIEVIABLE THE ISLAND WHERE TRIBE PEOPLE WORSHIP ENGLAND’S PRINCE PHILIP AS GOD (SEE PHOTOS)

See the Island Where Tribe People Worship England’s Prince Philip as God (See Photos)

A tribe in Vanuatu was shocked and dismayed to discover today that Prince Philip, who they pray to as the son of an ancestral local mountain god will likely never return to their Pacific Island home.
Buckingham Palace announced Thursday that the 95 year old man would no longer take part in public engagements, alone or alongside his wife, Queen Elizabeth II.
Amazingly for decades, he has been part of the fabric of life in the village of Younanen on Tanna Island. The cult of worshippers is known as Prince Philip Movement.
Villagers pray to the prince daily, asking for his blessing on the banana and yam crops that make their primitive and extremely poor community self-sufficient.

“If he comes one day the people will not be poor, there will be no sickness, no debt and the garden will be growing very well,” village chief Jack Malia told Reuters through an interpreter at the village’s Nakamal, a traditional meeting place where the men gather at night to drink highly intoxicating kava.
Villagers have several photos of the prince, including one dated 1980 of him in a suit, holding a club they made for him and sent to London.

“Prince Philip has said one day he will come and visit us,” said Malia, who was born in 1964 but did not know his birthday. “We still believe that he will come but if he doesn’t come, the pictures that I am holding… it means nothing.”
According to local legend, the pale-skinned son of the mountain god had ventured across the seas to look for a rich and powerful woman to marry.
Anthropologists believe Philip, who fitted the bill by marrying a powerful woman, became linked to the legend in the 1960s when Vanuatu was an Anglo-French colony known as the New Hebrides. Villagers at the time were likely to have seen portraits of Philip and the Queen at government offices and police stations run by colonial officials.
The belief that Philip, also known as the Duke of Edinburgh, was indeed the traveling son was reinforced in 1974 when he and the Queen made an official visit to the New Hebrides.

“Prince Philip is important to us because our ancestors told us that part of our custom is in England,” said Malia, who took over from his father as village chief in 2003.
Younanen is not marked on maps. Finding it requires a local guide and a three-hour drive through dirt trails from Lenakel, the capital of Tanna, itself little more than a shed and a shop.
Children play naked, some of the women wear traditional grass skirts with bare chests while the men, clothed in old t-shirts, carry machetes.
Asked whether Philip’s blessings would help with the tropical storms that often batter Vanuatu, like the Category 4 Cyclone Donna currently passing over the archipelago’s north, Malia said that wasn’t generally in his remit as they generally flowed up from the south.
Malia added that Philip had told villagers not to ever take money from people who visited, but that they should accept food, like rice, to share among themselves.
There is some irony in Philip, who has been by the queen’s side throughout her 65 years on the throne, being considered a god by a primitive community thousands of miles away from London’s civilization.
His reputation for making politically incorrect gaffes has been partly earned by comments about foreigners. He once advised British students not to stay too long in China for fear of becoming “slitty-eyed”.
And on a trip to Australia, he asked a group of shocked Aborigines if they still threw spears at each other.

IFEANYI UBAH (CAPITAL OIL AND GAS) ARRESTED

The Department of State Service (DSS) on Saturday said its arrest and detention of the managing director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited, Chief Ifeanyi Ubah, was based on his involvement in alleged stealing, diversion and illegal sale of petroleum products stored in his tank farm.

The petroleum product according to the DSS was kept in Ubah’s tank by Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).

Ubah was invited by the security operatives and questioned some weeks ago over his involvement in the alleged act.

He was however arrested on Friday May 5, with the DSS claiming that the alleged act was inimical to national security.

The agency in a statement signed by a spokesperson, Mr. Tony Opuiyo, in Abuja on Saturday, said the petroleum product Ubah allegedly stole was said to be above N11billion.

“In line with the statutory mandate of the DSS to investigate economic crimes of national security dimension, the service, on May 5, 2017, arrested Ifeanyi Ubah, Managing Director of Capital Oil and Gas Limited.

“The arrest was sequel to UBAH’s engagement in acts of economic sabotage which include stealing, diversion and illegal sale of petroleum products stored in his tank farm by the Nigeria NNPC. So far, it has been established that the products stolen amount to over N11billion. There is no doubt that Ubah’s acts have the capacity to negatively impact on national economy.

“It is instructive to note that Ubah has further engaged in other activities inimical to national security and public order. In furtherance of his gimmicks to undermine the government and people of Nigeria, he has incited members of the Petroleum Tanker Drivers, a critical player in the downstream sub-sector of the petroleum industry, to refuse/stop the lifting of products.

“This is part of his plans to curry their sentiments and cause them to embark on strike and also stage protests in his favour with the ulterior motive of arm-twisting the NNPC to abandon the cause of recovering the stolen products.

“The implications of this on law and order are in fact, a common knowledge. It is consequent upon this that the Service arrested and will prosecute him forthwith.”

NIGER DELTA MILITANTS - WE WILL RESUME PIPELINE BOMBING IN 2WEEKS

A Niger Delta militant group, Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders, NDRC, has threatened to resume hostilities in 14 days if the Federal Government disregarded its five-point demand, including inauguration of a panel to negotiate with the Pan Niger Delta Forum, PANDEF.

NDRC in a statement made available to the media by its spokesperson, WOI Izon-Ebi said: “After 14 days, if these very important concerns are not addressed, we shall have no choice but to call off our ceasefire and start hostilities because we only respected the plea of our eminent royal fathers, chiefs and leaders of the Niger Delta region to give room for sincere dialogue in finding a lasting solution to the Niger Delta question.

“The federal government should as a matter of urgency constitute a federal government delegation to liaise with PANDEF to start implementing all demands.

“Oloibiri should be a priority of development like the Federal Capital Territory because that is the first place oil was discovered in commercial quantity in 1959, but after sucking the oil dry, the community called Oloibiri is in shambles. No Niger Delta youth of this 21st century that happens to visit Oloibiri would accept the current reality of things in the Niger Delta.

“The Vice President that is saddled with the affairs of the Niger Delta should immediately call SPDC to order as it would annoy you to note how SPDC is enslaving Odoh family (the host family to Opomu West drilling location, since 1971 to date, a dime has not been given to the owners of the land for the destruction of their ancestral fishing lake).

“This issue should be addressed immediately as Akologben, Brass creek manifold and Benisede/Akonu/Tunu gas pipeline would be our first casualty.

“The good and peace- loving people of Gbaramatu kingdom have suffered too much and are currently under siege, and we, the NDRC and the 21st century agitators will not accept this type of inhuman treatment meted out on the people of Gbaramatu kingdom.

“It will not be accepted any more where they are now subjected to raising their hands before getting to their community. How can the federal government justify the presence of four military house boats surrounding Oporoza, the traditional headquarters of Gbaramatu kingdom? Army houseboats, Navy houseboats, Air force houseboats and Joint Task Force houseboats. The federal government should immediately withdraw all military personnel and houseboats from Gbaramatu kingdom.

“The lack of funds to properly address and implement the Presidential Amnesty Programme, PAP, which has seen amnesty beneficiaries sent back from their various institutions of study overseas would not be accepted any longer.”

The agitators noted that they had tremendous respect for the “Chairman of the Federal Government’s delegation, who happens to be a pastor, professor of law and Vice President of Nigeria, Prof Yemi Osinbanjo. His truthfulness to have accepted the true reality of the plight of the Niger Deltans makes us to respect our ceasefire, but we have come to realize that the Federal Government is not sincere.

“The UNEP report implementation was just a ploy to persuade the people of Ogoni and fool the international community that the Federal Government is fully committed to solving the Niger Delta question, their main aim is to suck the oil dry as was done in Oloibiri.

“The Niger Delta Revolutionary Crusaders and these 21st century agitators will make sure that all oil wells are shut down as was done in Ogoni land.

“We urge the Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, who is now saddled with the affairs of the Niger Delta to use his integrity as a true leader to save this situation because the Niger Delta youths of this 21st century would no longer be fooled anymore.”

UK GOVERNMENT REPLIES JONATHAN, SAYS NIGERIANS CHOSE BUHARI IN 2015

The British Government has responded to allegations by former Nigerian leader, Goodluck Jonathan, that they had a role in his loss of the 2015 presidential elections. They denied the allegation adding that Jonathan lost because the people selected Buhari.
In a book titled “Against the Run of Play,” written by a former Chairman of the Editorial Board of Thisday newspapers, Adeniyi Olusegun, Jonathan alleged that former British Prime Minister, David Cameron, connived with former United States President Barack Obama, among other world leaders, to push him out of office.
Reacting on Friday, the British High Commission in Nigeria in a statement signed by its Press and Public Affairs Officer, Joe Abuku, said the outcome of the 2015 elections was totally the decision of Nigerians.
Britain said the only role it played in the election was the engagement with Nigerians and their leaders prior to the elections to make it non-violent, free and fair.
The statement reads: “Prior to the 2015 elections in Nigeria, the UK engaged with Nigerian political parties and their leaders to urge them to run a fair, non-violent campaign and allow Nigerian voters to decide who their future political leadership would be.
“We congratulated President Jonathan on having handed over power peacefully in 2015 having lost the Nigerian Presidential elections.
“The elections were a credit to the Nigerian people and a truly historic moment for Nigerian democracy. This process further strengthened Nigeria’s democratic tradition.
“The UK welcomes the assessment of independent observers, including the EU, that Nigeria’s elections were largely peaceful and conducted in accordance with recognised international democratic norms, and that there was no evidence of systemic manipulation of the process.”

“MY HUSBAND WILL CONTINUE AGITATION FOR BIAFRA” – NNAMDI KANU’S WIFE

Uchechi Kanu, Wife of the recently released leader of the indigenous people of Biafra(IPOB) group, Nnamdi Kanu, has stated that her husband will continue his agitations for the actualization of Biafra.
In a video posted online, Uchechi described Nigeria as a contraption with its foundation laid by the British.
Quoting her:
“The British laid the foundation of the contraption called Nigeria, made up of the Biafra people, Oduduwa and Arewa people and these people were all of a different culture, religion and believe towards things of life.
“We are all different in every way and are not actually meant to be together. In fact, all the resources in Nigeria are coming from the Biafra land but then they are using the proceeds to develop the Nothern and Southern part. They, the government, is using all the resources from Biafra land to give others a better life, whereas, the Biafrans are suffering. We don’t have better schools, roads, and not even jobs. They just continuously press us down politically and otherwise and is why they don’t want us to leave.”
She added that holding a referendum would not be a bad idea. She said.
“I will say a referendum is not a bad idea but the people need to understand why we want Biafra and when that is done almost everybody is voting out. That is what Nnamdi Kanu is doing, sensitizing his people, creating awareness.
“People have come to realize that this is really what it should be, if he stops along the way then it means he has been defeated or he doesn’t know what he wanted in the first place. If you ask for a bread because you are hungry and then you are thrown into jail and released still without the bread, you are still hungry, aren’t you? So you still ask for your bread, except you weren’t hungry in the first place.

First Lady Aisha Buhari Empowers 2200 Women In Kano With Entrepreneurial Skills

The first batch of beneficiaries of the Women Empowerment Programme organized by the Aisha Buhari Foundation in Kano state rounded up their training on Friday, April 28, 2017. The graduands, numbering 1000 were randomly selected from different women groups from the state’s 44 local governments, and trained based on their choice of vocation.

The beneficiaries were taught fashion design, interior decoration, event management, catering, and leatherwork. Others were trained to produce cosmetics and household cleaning products, while others were taught processing of household spices. Because of their number, the women were spread between two centers: the women center at Gyadi gyadi and Salfat women center at Goron Dutse.

Coordinator of the Aisha Buhari Foundation’s (ABF) Women Empowerment Programme in Kano state, Mrs, Ramatu Mukhtar Rabiu, said the primary mandate of the Foundation is to empower women and enhance their chance of growing to their full potential in the community, which has of recent become more pronounced with the activities of the Future Assured programme.

She said the foundation takes inspiration from its founder, Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Muhammadu Buhari, whose unrelenting commitment in this regard, has drawn global attention.

“Mrs. Buhari has changed the lives of thousands of Nigerian women and she will continue so that more women will become empowered in Nigeria, ” Mrs. Rabiu said.

Mrs. Rabiu, therefore, congratulated the graduands on the skills they have acquired and called on them to translate the skills to money and improve their livelihood. She advised them to ensure that beyond the skills, they also have to advocate for other women to engage in entrepreneurial activities.

President, National Council for Women Societies, Kano state chapter, Hajiya Zainab Ali Musa thanked Mrs. Buhari for being a role model, who doesn’t stop at advocating but makes a direct contribution to improving the lives of women. Nigerians, she said, will not forget her efforts.

Also commenting on the event, the Managing Director of Salfat Empowerment Center, Mrs. Aisha Ameen Ilias, expressed her appreciation to Mrs. Buhari for increasing the number of skilled women in Kano and said she was sure that this would translate to better economic indices in the state. She called on other well-meaning Nigerians to emulate Mrs. Buhari’s Foundation so that more women can become empowered.

One of the beneficiaries of the training exercise, Mrs. Shemaú Gwadabe, while expressing appreciation to Mrs. Buhari, said, the women of Kano were not surprised at the gesture because Mrs. Buhari has been supporting women for many years. She prayed God to grant Mrs, Buhari the wherewithal to continue the good work she is doing, Mrs. Sani used the opportunity to call on other privileged Nigerians to help the trained women with start-up funds and working tools so that they can hit the ground running.

The training is expected to reach 2200 women in Kano and has been held in Lagos and Katsina states so far. Aisha Buhari Foundation plans to conduct the training in all the states of the Federation.

Court grants Nnamdi Kanu bail with twelve Conditions

The Federal High Court, Abuja, on Tuesday admitted the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, to bail on health grounds.
In a brief ruling, Justice Binta Nyako, said that she was convinced that Kanu was ill and needed more medical attention than the Nigerian Prisons was giving him.
“The first defendant, Nnamdi Kanu, has appealed to the court for bail based on health grounds and it is only the living that can stand trial.
“So I am minded to grant him bail so that he can attend to his health and face his trial alive,” Justice Nyako said.
She, however, gave 12 conditions which Mr. Kanu must fulfill to be released on bail, and to continue to enjoy the temporary freedom.
The conditions are:
— Mr. Kanu must not hold rallies.
— He must not grant interviews
— He must not be in a crowd of more than 10 people.
— He must provide three sureties in the sum of N100 million each.
— One of the sureties must be a senior highly placed person of Igbo extraction such as a senator.
— The second surety must be a highly respected Jewish leader since Mr. Kanu said his religion is Judaism
— The third surety must be a highly respected person who owns landed property and is resident in Abuja
— The IPOB leader must deposit his Nigerian passport
— He must also deposit his British passport with the court
— He must provide the court with reports on the progress of his health and treatment on a monthly basis.
— The order for him to deposit his Nigerian and British passports also mean he cannot travel out of the country (If this is considered, it is the thirteenth condition).
Justice Nyako however refused bail to the three other defendants standing trial with Kanu, namely Chidiebere Onwudiwe, Benjamin Madubugwu and David Nwawuisi.
The judge maintained that the only reason she admitted Mr. Kanu to bail was because of his ill health.
She said although the charge of terrorism had been struck out against the defendants, the charge of treasonable felony hanging over them was a very serious offence.
She also refused a second application by the three defendants seeking a review of her earlier ruling that witnesses who were security personnel should be protected.
She said although the defendants had made the application for variation of the ruling based on the grounds that the charge of terrorism had been dropped, the charge of treasonable felony was equally a grave one.
Based on this, she said she would stick to her earlier ruling that as long as the witnesses were security personnel, they would testify behind a curtain or wear a mask.
She adjourned the matter till July 11 and 12, for definite commencement of trial.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, and former Minister of Aviation, Osita Chidoka, were in court, according to them, as a sign of solidarity with Kanu.
Mr. Kanu was arrested in 2015 on an 11-count charge bordering on terrorism and treasonable felony.
Six of the charges, including that of terrorism, were struck out early in 2017.
