FUTO - STUDENTS COMPLAIN OF UNCOMFORT

After weeks upon weeks of being out of school, students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri were finally recalled to school.

The initial strike was the result of a 10,000 Naira increment on the school fees, which did not bode well with the students leading to protests and eventual destruction of school property.

Upon resumption following the strike, students have been asked to go to court and swear an affidavit of good conduct which would be presented to the school authorities before the commencement of exams in three weeks time.

In a school of about 4,000 students, all students are required to pay a surcharge fee of 12,500 Naira for damages resulting from the strike that held in march.

This has generated widespread angst amongst the students as the fee imposed, is miles higher than the 10,000 Naira school fees increase which led to the strike in the first place.

Asides this, students of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri are further infuriated at the school’s decision to ban all bikes as mode of transportation within the school’s premises leaving only about 7 buses within the school’s premises for transportation.
